Young woman from the affluent peasantry of Arles. She is holding a bouquet of flowers that she is ready to offer the child Jesus. It is sometimes likened to the character of Mireille, the heroine of the writer Frederic Mistral.
She wears the traditional costume of the Arles region in the nineteenth century white shawl embroidered petticoat and wide. It is also recognized by its particular hairstyle: hair are separated by a median line, forming a headband. Then, the hair is pulled back in a bun covered with a white tissue and surrounded by a stitched tape attached by pins gold. It is this element that makes or breaks the costume. Also called "arlatenco" countries of Arles.
Arles is a city of ancient art and an important center of the traditions of Provence.
